Living as if there was no tomorrow…

I have been on hiatus from GrammaWarrior for the last month and a half, enjoying the fruits of my grandparent visitation. As part of our negotiated visits this year, we were allowed to bring our grandson back home to Arizona for a five week summer visit.

The visits I am granted each year are a treasured treat as I know my time with my 4 year old grandson are sparse and heaven forbid I should lose these visits or the opportunity to see him again.

Needless to say, I am thoroughly and completely exhausted after our visits due to the many activities and special times I plan during our time together (not to mention, I’m not getting any younger, and I can sure feel it).

The song by Tim McGraw, “Live like you were dying” comes to mind as the lyrics implore the listeners to live every day with excitement, wonder, and as if it may be their last. I pack the visits with my grandson with music, reading, crafts, pretend play, teaching, field trips, swimming and water play, family and cousin time, and lots of heart to heart talks.

I take tons of pictures to post on Facebook, and I make an album for my grandson to take home with him to remember our time together. I do this for all of my visits with him whether it be one of my seven day visits when I travel to his town in Pennsylvania, or the longer visits when he is allowed to visit Arizona. I add our special music to his tablet so he can listen, sing along, and keep us in his memories when he is home. We talk about Jesus and we pray together, and I hug and hold him so much to reassure him that he will see us again.

Yes, I am worn out after a visit from my rambunctious and energetic 4 year old grandson but it doesn’t compare to the bond we are strengthening and the memories we are making together. I never want him or us to feel that agonizing pain again of losing each other. I take each day with him as if it were our last, giving every ounce of energy that I have, so he will always know that Gramma and Grampa love him dearly.

Lovingly,

GrammaWarrior
