I am a grandparent who has experienced both joy and sadness in my experiences with my grandchildren. I currently spend wonderful moments with two of my grandchildren and I did share a loving bond with another grandson until his parents took him away. I pursued grandparent visitation and won and I now have access once again to my precious grandson. I cover two categories in this blog: The Joys of Grand-Parenting, and Grandparent Alienation.
We experienced Grandparent Alienation after fostering/raising our grandchild for the first two years of his life. He was reunited with his parents and we stayed actively involved with him on a weekly basis for the next year. One unsuspecting summer night, he and his siblings were taken away without us knowing what was going on and the loss cut me to the core. I, and all of our family members were devastated. The next six months I spent searching for him and I share the story of our journey and what we learned about Grandparent Alienation.
I am one of the lucky ones who found our grandchild and now have visitation. I was shocked to learn about the many, many, grandparents experiencing the same fate, as I discovered Grandparent Alienation support groups and organizations that I never knew existed. I wish to remain anonymous to assure that I don’t upset or offend those who may have been involved and jeopardize losing the precious visitation that we now enjoy. However I feel it is important to get my story out and all of the information that I learned during this trying and traumatic time. I pray my story can inform and potentially help other grandparents going through Grandparent Alienation.
